Preply is an online tutoring platform that connects tutors with students who want to learn languages and other subjects. Tutors can teach from home and set their own hourly rates and schedules.

The platform is best known for language lessons, with students looking for help with English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and many other languages. Tutors can also teach subjects such as math, music, business, and other areas.

You create a tutor profile that includes your skills, experience, introduction video, availability, and hourly rate. Students can then find your profile and book lessons directly through Preply.

Preply handles payments and provides tools for scheduling and teaching online. This means tutors do not need to build their own payment system or find a separate video platform for lessons.

You decide how much to charge per hour. According to Preply, popular tutors can currently earn up to $550 per week, but your actual income depends on your rate, number of students, and how many lessons you teach.

The commission structure is important. Preply takes 100% of the first trial lesson with each new student. After that, the commission starts at 33% and falls to 18% as you complete more teaching hours on the platform.

For example, a new tutor charging $10 per hour receives $6.70 from a regular lesson after the 33% commission. Tutors with more than 400 completed hours keep 82% of their lesson price.

You can withdraw earnings through PayPal, Payoneer, Skrill, or Wise. Preply says tutors can withdraw available earnings whenever they want after the lesson has been confirmed.

The platform has a large learner base and provides tools that can help tutors manage their teaching business. The main drawback is the high commission for new tutors, especially the unpaid trial lesson.
