Outschool is an online teaching marketplace where educators create and teach live or self-paced classes for children and teenagers ages 1 to 18.

The platform covers a wide range of subjects, from traditional school subjects such as mathematics, science, reading, and writing to creative and interest-based topics such as coding, music, art, languages, cooking, and games. Outschool currently has more than 100,000 classes available to learners in 174 countries.

The platform gives educators considerable control over what they teach. You choose the subject, create the curriculum, set the class price, decide how many students you want in each class, and choose your schedule.

You can offer one-time classes, multi-week courses, recurring weekly classes, tutoring, or self-paced learning experiences. This makes Outschool more flexible than a traditional online tutoring job, where the company assigns students and determines your schedule.

You do not need a formal teaching qualification to become an Outschool educator. The platform looks for people with expertise or a genuine passion they can turn into useful learning experiences. However, applicants must be at least 18, have good written and spoken English, reliable internet, suitable technical skills, and the ability to pass identity verification and a criminal background check.

The process begins by applying to become an educator. Once approved, you create your class listings and available sections. Parents and learners can then find your classes through the Outschool marketplace and enroll.

Outschool handles the marketplace, enrollment process, payment collection, video infrastructure, and other platform logistics, allowing educators to concentrate on preparing and teaching their classes.

Educators set their own class prices, but Outschool keeps 30% of the class price as its Teacher Fee. The educator receives the remaining 70% of the class price for each enrollment. This means your potential earnings depend on the price you set, the number of students who enroll, and how many classes you run.

For example, if you charge $20 for a class and 10 students enroll, the class generates $200 in class-price revenue. After Outschool’s 30% Teacher Fee, your share would be $140 before considering any applicable taxes or other personal costs. The actual amount you earn can therefore increase as you build popular classes with more students.

Outschool also provides an opportunity to build a teaching business around your own expertise. Someone good at mathematics could create math classes, while a programmer could teach coding or game development. Someone with knowledge of a language could offer language lessons, and a creative professional could teach drawing, music, photography, or another practical skill.

Payments are currently made through PayPal in USD, with payout timing depending on the type of class. Fixed-duration classes are generally paid 7 to 8 days after the class starts, while recurring weekly classes are generally paid on Sundays approximately 7 to 13 days after the relevant meetings.

The biggest limitation for your directory is country eligibility. Outschool does not currently accept educators from every country. The approved teaching locations are the United States, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

For eligible educators, however, Outschool provides a legitimate way to turn knowledge and teaching skills into online income without having to find every student independently.
