Scribie is a freelance transcription platform where people earn money by turning recorded audio into written text. The company has been operating since 2008 and says it has paid more than $4 million to its freelance transcribers.

The work is mainly focused on English transcription. Scribie provides an automated transcript, and your job is to listen to the recording, correct mistakes, and make sure the final transcript is accurate.

You need good English comprehension and the ability to understand different speakers and accents. A computer, stable internet connection, and headphones are also needed for the work.

Before accessing paid files, you must complete Scribie’s certification process. Once certified, you can preview available files and choose ones that match your ability and preferred difficulty.

Scribie pays between $5 and $20 per audio hour. This is important because an audio hour is not the same as an hour of your working time. A six-minute recording, for example, may pay between $0.50 and $2.50.

Your actual hourly earnings can therefore be much lower than the listed audio rate. How fast you type, how clear the recording is, and how difficult the speakers are will affect how long each file takes.

The platform pays through PayPal. Scribie says freelancers can withdraw their available balance at any time, with no stated minimum withdrawal amount.

Scribie also allows freelancers to work with other transcription companies. This makes it possible to use the platform as one source of work rather than relying on it alone.

The main issue is that Scribie’s pay is modest. Its current Trustpilot profile also has a low overall score, although the review count is very small.
