Gengo

Gengo is an online translation platform that connects freelance translators with customers who need written content translated. It supports many language pairs and gives translators access to jobs through its online workbench.

The platform is open to both newer translators and experienced language professionals. You do not need to find your own clients because Gengo provides the translation jobs through its system.

To get started, you create a free account and take a two part translation test. Once approved, you can browse available jobs in your language pair and claim work that suits your skills.

Each job shows the translation rate and total reward before you begin. Gengo says rates vary by language pair, customer demand, and other factors, so there is no single rate for every translator.

Gengo also has a Pro qualification test. Passing it gives translators access to more challenging work with higher reward rates. This gives experienced translators a way to move into better paid projects as their skills improve.

The work can cover many types of content. Projects may include business material, website text, product descriptions, marketing content, and other written material that customers need translated.

Gengo handles the payment process for translators. Once the customer approves your work, the reward is added to your Gengo balance. You can then request a payout when you are ready.

Payments are available through PayPal or Payoneer in U.S. dollars. PayPal payouts carry a 1.5% transaction fee, with a $1.50 minimum and $20 maximum fee.

The main challenge is getting enough work. Your earning potential depends on the language pairs you offer, customer demand, your quality score, and the number of jobs available.
