The platform gives tutors control over their profile, schedule, subjects, and hourly rate. You can teach online through TutorOcean’s built-in classroom or offer in person sessions where available.
There are two main ways to find students. TutorOcean can connect you with students through its marketplace, or you can bring your own students and use the platform to handle bookings and payments.
That second option makes TutorOcean useful for tutors who already have students outside the platform. You can keep more of each payment when you bring your own students.
TutorOcean says tutors keep 90% of transactions when they bring their own students. The share is 80% when TutorOcean provides the student.
There is no subscription fee for tutors. You create a profile, set your rates, choose your availability, and use the platform’s booking, classroom, and payment tools.
Your earning rate is up to you. TutorOcean does not set one standard hourly wage because tutors choose their own rates based on their subject, experience, and market.
Payments are handled through Stripe. If Stripe is not available in your country, you can also request PayPal as an alternative. Stripe payments are processed after the lesson and can take up to seven days to reach your connected bank account.
PayPal has a different schedule. TutorOcean says PayPal payments are processed on the first business day of the month, with a $40 minimum balance required before a payment is sent.
The platform also gives tutors tools for scheduling, messaging, video lessons, file sharing, and student management. That makes it more than a simple site for finding tutoring leads.
One thing to keep in mind is student demand. Setting a high hourly rate does not guarantee bookings, so a new tutor may need time to build a profile and gain reviews.
