Reedsy Discovery (Book Reviewing for Pay)
Description
Reedsy Discovery is a book review platform where experienced reviewers can earn money for reviewing self-published books and indie press titles.
The platform is part of Reedsy, a larger marketplace for publishing professionals. Discovery connects authors with reviewers who can provide professional editorial feedback on their books.

This is not a typical site where anyone can sign up, read a book, and receive a small payment. Reedsy now requires reviewers to have at least three years of book reviewing experience and a strong portfolio of published reviews. The team reviews applications by hand.
Once accepted, reviewers can browse books available in the Discovery review library. You can choose books that interest you rather than being assigned random titles.
The current pay depends on the length of the book. Reviewers earn $50 for books under 15,000 words, $75 for books between 15,000 and 100,000 words, and $99 for books over 100,000 words.
Reviews must be at least 350 words long. After your review goes live, Reedsy says payment is made seven days later.
You also have flexibility around how much work you take. Reedsy says reviewers do not have to meet a set quota, so you can choose books based on your interests and available time.
The books are mainly self-published and indie titles across different genres. That means you may read fiction, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, memoirs, business books, or other types of books.
The review itself needs to be useful to readers and show real judgment. This is why Reedsy looks for reviewers who already have a track record of writing thoughtful book reviews.
The platform recently changed its Discovery model. Reedsy is removing some older social features, including follower counts, comments, upvotes, the reviewer leaderboard, and social media integrations.
That change makes Discovery more focused on professional reviews rather than building a social following inside the platform.
There is also an important point about the author’s side of the service. Authors currently pay $299 for a professional editorial review, but reviewers are paid from that service. Reedsy says the author is only charged when a reviewer completes and submits the review.
The main barrier is experience. This is not one I would recommend to someone who simply enjoys reading and wants to make their first few dollars online.
For an experienced reviewer with a good portfolio, though, the setup is attractive. You choose the books, know the payment before accepting, and have a clear deadline for the review.
• The payment is clearly stated based on the book's word count before you take the assignment.
• You do not have to meet a fixed monthly review quota.
• The work can add strong published reviews to an existing book review portfolio.
• Large books can pay up to $99 for a single completed review.
• Reedsy gives reviewers a full month to complete each review after accepting a book.
• Reedsy manually reviews applications, so acceptance is not guaranteed.
• You need a strong portfolio of previous reviews to show your writing ability.
• The work is better suited to experienced reviewers than people looking for an easy beginner side hustle.
• The number of books available to you can depend on the titles authors submit and the books you choose.
